Has anyone had experience taking anti-depressants for severe, chronic Insomnia. Chronic Insomnia is a condition where you can't sleep AT ALL unless you pinch medication to knock you out. It is not the kind of Insomnia that is merely a sleep disturbance, you don't sleep AT ALL. Doctors prescribe anti-depressants for this condition, have it helped anyone? If so, what anti-depressant did you take? SSRI, Tricyclic, NSRI?

I suspect that in that are two reasons this might work for some people.
You know that someone beside chronic insomnia begins destructive thought patterns (just approaching someone depressed). Even if you're the happiest person in the world, earlier long you will KNOW that you can't sleep without knockout pills, and so you lie nearby thinking about how you can't sleep and how you'll never sleep and so guess what... you're so busy thinking, that you can't fall asleep.
Secondly, some race (but not all) are having this insomnia in the first place because they're depressed. Many depressed ancestors are not sad. Any negative sentiment at all can be involved, from fear, to anger, to stress, to greed, anxiety, anything. So sometimes it happens that people report severe insomnia to a doctor, but don't quality sad, so nobody ever realises it's depression.
If both of these things are going on, antidepressants can be very powerful. I have been on SSRI (Zoloft) and that worked tremendously for me. In certainty I noticed as soon as I stopped taking it that I was awake adjectives hours of the day and night to the point my eyes be drying up and yet no sleep!
Obviously everyone's different so try what your doctor suggests. And if you can, stick out the side effects for a few days because they will improve within time, remember, all drugs have side effects, we in recent times pick the medications which have substandard side effects than the problem we're trying to treat.
I take paxil for anxiety and it helps my anxiety and depression but i can never sleep. Maybe its different cuz my condition is different but adjectives i know is i dont sleep now after taking anti depressants.
